ENERGY4ALL? Public talks and panel discussion on Positive Energy Districts in Stavanger and Europe!

Venue: Datalab, 1st floor, Kjølv Egelands hus, University of Stavanger
Date and time: 9:00–12:00, Wednesday, 11 November

The ENERGY4ALL project hosts European partners for a consortium meeting to close three years of successful collaborative research and innovation on Positive Energy Districts, or PEDs. Across Norway, Austria, Italy and Hungary, we have piloted and researched PEDs as part of growing momentum for renewable energy communities in European cities and neighbourhoods.

In this Wednesday morning public session, we are pleased to offer insights by leading European researchers, feature a panel discussion with local partners from PED Hillevåg in Stavanger, and launch a comic book based on our project pilot and research!

Programme overview

09:00–10:30 Public seminar on PEDs

  • Thomas Bauwens, Erasmus University Rotterdam, talks about community enterprises and energy commons based on his ERC project SCENSUS. He addresses the challenge of scaling PED related metrics by harmonising across data infrastructures and why governance and ownership drop out.
  • Adam Hearn, University of Basel, shares insights from Hunziker Areal PED in Zurich. He provides reflections on transferable learnings based on its replication in the Hobelwerk district in Winterthur, drawing on his extensive empirical research on these PED developments.
  • Stefanija Hrle Aiello, project manager of ENERGY4ALL, Eutropian, offers insights from PED cases based in Stavanger in Norway, the Styria region of Austria, Budapest in Hungary, and Rome in Italy. She shares highlights from three years of collaboration in R&I.

Audience questions and brief discussion follow.

10:30–12:00 Panel discussion on PED Hillevåg

We turn to a local focus on Stavanger and the PED Hillevåg initiative advanced through the ENERGY4ALL project during 2024–2026. First we launch a comic book by local artist Leo Ribeiro with researchers Siddharth Sareen and Yonas Tesema based on PED Hillevåg. See the comic book here (free print copies given to all who participate!).

Then we feature a panel discussion with representatives from PED Hillevåg partners, moderated by Siddharth Sareen, research professor, Fridtjof Nansen Institute:

The seminar is open to all interested colleagues, students and broader publics who are eager to learn about and engage on PED related issues. A good chance to meet leading European researchers and practitioners on this theme and get an update on what’s going on at PED Hillevåg!
